What it means to be a Goth-Being A Goth

       Being A Goth

          What does it means to be a Goth and live this dark lifestyle that we do?  Does it means that we worship Satan, or most of us are Witches? No.
A lot of times certain curious ones come to me on the street  or other places asking me do I worship the devil , or think that I'm evil. The truth is that I'm not and I personally  don't worship a being named Satan.  What many people fail to realize is that Goth doesn't revolve around Satan or Satanism. Most importantly they fail to realize that Goth is not a religion, it is a lifestyle and subculture  with many upon many, with different races, genders and more who refer to themselves as Goth all across the world. 

   

  

 With that said there are many subsets or types of Goths that have their own set of beliefs and traditions. So when it comes to spiritual paths or religions you may have some Goths who are Pagan  and into the Occult such as myself, some who are agnostic, and some who are Christian, Atheist,  or Satanic. At the same time you will find certain types of Goths who are more into the Trad or Traditional ways , or other types such as Romantic Goth, Victorian Goths,  Deathrock ,  Vampiric, Pagan , or Metal Goths,  Cyber Goths. I am also into certain other forms of Goth as well.

                        
                         

        Being A Goth means to be open minded and to be attracted darker  aesthetics and art,  Finding beauty in it,  and having a darker mind and overall finding a home within the strange, morbid or grotesque.  Clothing is a must because most of us Goths do happen to wear clothing that is Goth like, that isn't to say we may alternate but mainly it would be Goth clothing and different Gothic accessories, from spike bracelets, chokers, Demonia Boots etc. How would you tell if they are a Goth if they are not showing who they are? That would be like looking at  a random person for the first time  saying he or she's Goth . Even though it's not all about the clothing it is a plus to show who you are. Having a  Goth  lifestyle is  also about getting the Goth forms of  Arts, such as music like Gothic Rock, Post Punk Deathrock, Darkwave, Minimal Synth , Ghoulwave (what I create) etc.  

I'm Not saying that other forms aren't accepted or that you only have to listen to these forms of music either. It is just what do you identify yourself with more.   There are people who are more into metal who identify what the subculture and they call themselves Metalheads (Note: Some metalheads may like morbid art, or dark clothing however it doesn't makes them a Goth, unless they are perhaps a Metalhead type of Goth), then there are Emo's who is an entirely different subculture from Goth. Even though some may look similar to us, they are very different from Goths  but sadly some people with untrained eye  or don't truly understand cannot tell the difference between them and us . When Goth was first coined it was known to be very macabre and all through the ages from the ancient days from East Germanic Tribes, to the 1800's and the famous Gothic Literature and architecture, moving forward to the later years with shows like The Addams Family, The Munsters and Gothic shows like Dark Shadows and  it's cousin  show Strange Paradise. Last but not least the well known Punk Rock movement/subculture who were known rebels  and out of that tomb where Goth reformed into what we know now in modern times.  

  Being a Goth for me is natural as breathing air and it means to have a great attraction to the darkness and not to care what society thinks of you.  I've walked around in different places showing proudly who I am without any regard, some people may dislike and others may be in awe but either way I am still going to be me regardless.  to those that may dislike me for being me they can jump in a leech infested lake ..... lets just say i am not one of those Goths who don't have attitude who's super pleasant that includes when people be mean to you. I come from Newark, NJ  and I  also  have a mix of Punk Rock in me as well..Enough said.  I use to get  picked on for being different and now some people use the Goth style as a fashion or sex statement trying to get  seen and it seems sad  because as for me being a Goth is much deeper than that. As I've said once before it has a lot to do with the  barbaric clothing but  a whole lot more if you have a Gothic mindset, because anyone can  put on clothes that doesn't makes them Goth, it will make them  either scene or a poseur. I found a home within the darkness at an early age. I  was always interested into the dark arts, clothing, and alternative spiritual paths  like Paganism  and everything for me fell into place in my life around 13 , and since then everything became even darker  for the better in my life as years progressed. I now refer to myself as a Ghoulish Goth for my own personal reasons, and you could think of it as another subset within the world of Goth as well. I will speak about that more  in my next blog. My Thoughts On Politics

My thoughts on Politics 

Everyday In some form or way I see politics or political thoughts and actions being used or executed. It's very apparent that we are living in dangerous times and things are very  different now in America and abroad especially with a joke of a president  named Trump who's in office. The only way you may not notice if you're living under a rock.  Even though we had our own preferences back then before Trump was even thought of and many protests, regarding issues of race (with Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, etc)  gender equality, and much more, the current state has taken a turn for the worst.

 To some it may be actually a return to the issues of yesteryear in a new world. Issues thought to be dead but however a strong sense of racism, fascism, and much much more still plagues modern society and it is very evident. It is also very evident that there is a deep divide within the states, and mainly the way the South and North deal with each other, the more conservative and the more liberated.  Once again this is nothing new but now has become even worst because of the very fact that a racist, slithering lying coward, and rapist  by the name of Donald Trump has became president. Blacks and Native Americans are no longer slaves as in the old world but now we are still under a scope of scrutiny, being harassed or killed by police (supposed authority figures) being oppressed in many other forms.   this wound and made the gash even deeper, fueling the fires of racism, bigotry and if you don't think so look at Charlotesville and numerous other cases that is going on around in America thanks to Trump. People have come out of the shed and pledge their allegiance to such a terrible excuse for a human being passing him off saying  things like we like him because he speaks his mind. He is a true christian unlike Obama and all types of stupidity these backwoods hicks may say.   

First and foremost people may like him because he is saying thing the others were to scared to say out of their own mouth which was usually racist anyways. His agenda secretly lined up with theirs and this was all driven with a political agenda you could see that in the Kentucky chicken neck gizzard boy Mitch Mcconnel.  Their thoughts are alingend with his even though they may not like him to some degree they are still his followers  having a greater goal to go against the more progressive younger, diverse crowds of today.  (  For those who may think more in a spiritual or supernatural show type of way  think about Satan/lucifer being at the head of the helm  and even though certain demons like Crowley may dislike him,  they still follow until they may find their big break  because this is for a greater purpose. It's funny not one republican as of yet tried to challenge him Big Red in rethuglican party)  The new generation are at war with the old grandpas who are still hanging on, with one foot in the senate and the other in the grave.  

Now as for some may know what these politicians and presidents may do will affect you whether you're  rich, middle class and poor. Some people say that long as they leave me alone and give me my 9-5 slave job I could care less. That is where you're wrong and to me and you're living in a bubble,  because currently in the world  we see so many incidents with cops getting away with murder, making a woman's right to have abortions illegal, people who have a different lifestyle such as the LGBT community and other subcultures being targeted.  These are you're basic rights  even to healthcare, social security, and more they would like to take away from you. It's not being done by people on the left but by those who are on the right wing, and the garbage that they promote especially if you live in those Bible belt states who don't like anything different. 

Meanwhile some are still playing on the neutral fence then wonder why people are doing what they do these days. Just don't complain because if it wasn't for people speaking up and out about this , this world would be worst dismal state than it already is. Really sad, but if you want to chase women all day and play video games just realize once you put down that controller there is an actual war going on with the hearts and souls of men and women. I am not one of those people who just want to leave things alone either, They won't leave me alone and anytime someone mess with Spiritus, I come back. I am the type to get involved in some form or way.  It's no wonder why Movie stars, Musicians and Artists such as myself are now getting involved with this thing we called politics more than ever. Big companies, and directors  are pulling out of certain states like those from the AMC classic terror hit The Walking Dead in response to abortion rights. 

As much as some say they don't want to be involved with politics 8 times out of 10 you already are, even when it comes to the little things, dealing with people on daily basis. On a more personal I come from a liberated diverse background, I am familiar and more open minded to things when it comes to other subcultures, creeds, races, genders,  etc. To be more blunt I am liberated as hell coming from NJ-Shadowlands. It is just natural to me and runs in my blood, also being close to NYC.   I just wouldn't personally be friends or have relations with a Trump Supporter because they go against everything I stand for and caused more harm than helped. Even Democrats disagree because they are different types from the moderate like Biden and the progressive like Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Acosta etc. Though nothing is that out of the park like dealing with a Trump supporter or having them as a friend.  Me dealing or being around a Trump Supporter would be a waste of time and these days I like those who could at least meet me 50/50 in thought. As I said earlier in this post I am the type to fight for injustice and more because I am spiritual warrior. Many have felt my wrath in the past those whom deserve it, I am not one of those people who just sit back and be on the fence not doing or saying anything about this and  turning a blind eye. I am very VOCAL and  PHYSICAL about my beliefs and lifestyle. I went as far to going to certain meetings as well to assert myself more among like minded individuals who really try to stand for a cause. Don't get me wrong if it's something personal that prevents or they have other obligations then it's also understandable because very one case is different.  Sometimes people also lose hope in the process as well that is common and to some degree understandable as well Just remember great things didn't happen over a days span.

Am I democrat? No my thoughts  tend to be on the far left more with rebels and Anarchists. I like idea of true liberation from the powers to be and run them into the ground and by then the true beasts of the neitherworld will have their way with them.   In darkness I will be waiting, In darkness I will be anticipating

Spiders

Spiders are some of the most fascinating, feared and strangest creatures among us and they have been with us for quite some time on earth. Affecting us both directly and indirectly in helpful ways and in more olden times spiders were known to be symbols of good and bad luck in different spiritual faiths and in different cultures. They are still regarded as holding a very special  in our modern day and time. Though nowadays people are quick to look upon them as pest and as another bothersome insect that we do not need in our space, when their attitudes should be a little more tolerable toward these wonderful creatures. They're  all around us lurking in the corners and crevices of your house and some are even outside spinning their webs looking forward to catching their prey there are some things that you may or may not know about these creatures...



8.) Spiders are not insects!! Yes that is correct and may shock some who could have sworn that it's in the same family as a cockroach or other of the insect type you are mistaken. Spiders belong to the family of Arachnids. What is Arachnids? They are animals that don't have antennas, claws, or wings. In fact I believe it's safe to say that most arachnids have 8 legs excluding certain mites , so yes Spiders are in the same family as the scorpion.  Arachnids also belong to a larger family called Arthropods which includes crabs lobsters and etc..

7.) They are harmless unless provoked! Their is a common misconception that spiders are out to get people and be another pest who hangs around to the point they are bothersome. No,  not really with spiders, they are not like that and most times you wont even know that they are around. They are minding their own business and catching insects so the thought of a spider being aggressive  and coming after a human being is a non worry. Though not to say that they aren't very dangerous spiders that wont bite you if they feel threatened or harmed such as the Brown Recluse and Black Widow making sure  that whomever is a problem will pay the price. Though you could sleep easier knowing that these creatures are not after your blood like mosquitoes or bite you throughout the night like bedbugs would do.  However there are dangerous spiders that has been shown to be aggressive and that is in particular the Funnel Web Spider. Once you're bitten major sickness  that can lead to death will occur so try to stay clear as much as possible.

6.) Over 30,000 different species of spiders exist all over the world and counting- except for in Antarctica.  In addition they also help humans and the ecosystem because if it wasn't them their would be an overpopulation of those insects that most hate and despise especially in the summer and spring. Having Spiders around will make sure that the insect population will be cut down significantly so think about that the next time you are about to kill one for being in your presence. It would be better if you can find something to escort it outside or find another way to get them away from you instead.

5.) Very dangerous spiders include the Funnel Web Spider, the Brown Recluse, and the most feared Black Widow. There are quite a few more to mention such as the Brazilian Wandering Spiders, Yellow Sac Spiders, Redback, Wolf Spider, Brown Widow, and Red Widow. These spiders are known to be very venomous and they all will give you bad symptoms upon being bitten, there are even some like the Black Widow who's venom is 18 times more toxic than that of a Rattlesnake. The Brown Widow's venom is even more toxic than that of the Black Widow though not typically aggressive and will bite you to a lesser degree. 4.) Unlike most humans spiders have blue blood. In humans there oxygen is connected to hemoglobin but in spiders their oxygen is connected to hemocyanin which is a molecule that has more copper content not like iron which is typically found in humans.

3.) All spiders spins silk but not all of them spin webs. When a spiders spins it silk from it's spinneret it comes out as a liquid and hardens when it comes in contact with the air. Not all silk is the same they vary from stretchy, sticky to smooth but it said that the silk in a spiders web thicker than a strand of steel.

1.) Last but not least spiders are a symbol of mystery and creation, they are also known as symbols of good luck! Yes you've heard me correctly and not only can these creatures eat and kill all of the insects they can also show you signs of good and sometimes bad luck by having them around. Many superstitious thoughts and spiritual beliefs have been around since ancient times and they are still around in our modern times. Everything from signs of money, strangers, and even death it's no wonder when spiders are near some people they will take a step back from the mundane and look at the deeper significance surrounding this new mystery. Sometimes it's just looking for a snack but other times maybe not so much.

SPIRITUS DEFINITION OF A GHOUL A.K.A GHOULOLOGY 1.0.1

Now is time where I Spiritus (The Dark Prince) would like to give you all a breakdown of what I refer to as Ghoulology and what it means to be a Ghoul/Ghoulette. Now some have seen me use this word quite a few times in songs, poems, online, person and elsewhere and probably thought what does it mean. Well first if we look at the term Ghoul it basically means....

Ghoul: An evil spirit or phantom, especially one supposed to rob graves and feed on dead bodies. A person morbidly interested in death or disaster.

After that you may have some clue of where I am coming from in a sense (No I am not fond of robbing or promoting the robbing of graves, I tend to respect the dead.) The second part of the definition fits part of where I am truly coming from.

Spiritus definition of a Ghoul(Male)/Ghoulette(Female): A morbid being usually a subtype of Goth who is mostly living a Ghastly, horrid, outlandish, unconventional/undead, liberated life. More towards the Deathrock or Punk or even Victorian side of the spectrum and even more in your face attitude wise. We are more vocal, and speak up against certain injustices and we don’t care where we show up dressed because to Ghouls/Ghoulettes it’s not only a lifestyle but have sort of dark spiritual values as well. They would have to honor a Ghoul like they respect a Nun or a Muslim wearing a Hi-jab --same difference. Even when it comes to music it is usually mostly obscure than forms of alternative music. Not to mention Spiritus has created a genre of music that is called Ghoul Synth, with close ties to Gothic Rock/Post-Punk, Darkwave, Horrorsurf, Classical and Pagan Music. (I’ll speak more on that soon. Stay tuned Darklings and Creatures.) Mainly a Ghoul is an undead creature of the night who is closely connected with the macabre. They are mostly a Vampire or anything beyond human..etc

So instead of dark and beautiful, which a Ghoul could sometimes be defined, Think of Ghoulish or the Horror side of life which I am more fond of. A Ghoul lives not in fear of the public and humiliation of showing who they are, instead we are quick to remind you immediately with pride. Ghouls usually came from a rougher side of life, so while others are enjoying their lavishness, conforming to a American dream, or trying to keep up with the kardashins we are either out hanging out in cemeteries, among other Ghouls and Ghoulettes having a Ghoulish time sometimes causing a little ruckus against the uptight establishment , and being an American Nightmare. Not saying that Ghouls don’t suppose to strive for the best because by all means that is the purpose. However Ghouls show the world a big difference see the Gothic artist Spiritus (The Dark Prince) for example.

Similar like the ancient legends of monsters of madmen a true Ghoul like Spiritus is beyond human. Similar to the ancient Visi and Ostrogoths of the past, a true Ghoul is mentally barbaric (and don’t mind showing you physically if we have to, not just by looking but acting it out), the Goth look is a resemblance or reflection of the inside soul. Similar to the Aghori sect in India Ghouls perform certain rituals that will equate them with other shadow and dark spirits and we are what most people fear.

So that is mostly my definition of what a Ghoul is and why I refer to myself as one, not just a Black /Native American Trad Goth or Goth. I guess you could call me a Ghoulish Goth or Gothic Ghoul, even though to some the words Ghoul and Goth are basically the same thing, I just tend to put more emphasis on being a Ghoul . It’s more of a extreme form of Goth or Goth revamped that is-with a more spiritual or revolutionary approach. People usually get the wrong impression of me and think since I’m a Goth I suppose to fit in certain known categories of the subculture even though we are all different in our own way, this is my way and this is my path. I’m a proud weirdo that don’t mind standing his ground and paving the way for others to do so as well. I’m a GHOUL!

Black/Ethnic Alternatives and Goths

First I would like to say that this post doesn’t refer to Babybats/Newbie Goths who are trying to find there way. Nor does this refer to every Black/Ethnic and Alternative Goth who may like certain normal things. This post refers to those who are living a lie and truly not embracing what it means to be a Goth. In other words they like Goth things they seem Goth but they truly aren’t. They just hang somewhere on the edge being a darkling (which is ok) or even worst... a poseur (which is not). Of course there are different types and styles of Goths but some do not truly live a Goth life.

  It seems to me that a big portion of the ethnic alternative and Goth crowds are reminding me of the norms. It's apparent to them that it's all about the fashion and trying to model or make a sexual fetish out of it. They are even trying to blend it into mainstream hiphop nowadays which will only see it as nothing more than a fad and move on the next couple of years to something else. Example- One year everyone was so into being a rockstar or skateboarder then that faded out but before that the mainstream black community hated or disliked rock or different types of music altogether and they would make fun of someone who appears different. Now everyone wants to wear a skull on their shirt and get piercings..lol Well it's funny and sad at the same time. I really try my best not to judge but I've seen and witnessed a lot and when I see something phony I must call it out.  It's ok if people want to model and such but when the night comes make room for the real Goths and Children of the Night ok. Our world is vastly different from most because we are who we are and shouldn't be ashamed to show it to anyone. If an average person may not like us then it's their lost, we are not of their world-just don't let anyone disrespect your lifestyle or beliefs. Though if a mundane or average norm do like then you should be accepting to them as well as long as they respect-I will touch more on that very soon. 
    For as some of the Ethnic/Black Alternative and Goths I've noticed have added a cultural mix to the subculture and made it more interesting such as myself and some others haven't truly embraced the darkness or the strange and there is only a few that I've seen on facebook or other site that I could really relate too. It's sort of different when I come across other races of Goths because they are deeper into their lifestyle and added their cultural mix to the scene and living it as well. Even though there are some out of each race especially certain Black Alternative or Goths I've came across that seemed to be teeny boppers or attention seeking adults gossiping about nothing and stirring up drama with occasional R&B, neighborhood fight videos etc. Then you wonder why some true Goths see you in a certain way-  Excuse me but it's a reason why I'm known as The Dark Prince..Even though I say that I'm a Goth I am truly much more and I truly love what most call weird and dark. (Not bragging it's just how the way things are with me) Speaking of me Spiritus....Since I was a little young Ghoul or terror I was always into something strange or different whether it was music, tv, etc. No everything wasn't really Goth but it was different in some form or way. On another personal note I've hung around some who claimed to be Goth(some more were posers and didn't get past the first stage with me) and even though there were some more into their craft in some form some they wasn't necessarily my cup of tea. To say that I am eccentric is just a stone in front of a asteroid. We need to support our fellow Goths/Ethnic Goths and not just the ones who've already made it. People are such groupies hopping on mainstream stars and models promoting their stuff when they don't even acknowledge you as a person. Promote my album or book as an up an coming artist and I'm quick to tell a well known facebook model or etc..You look nice but purchase my album and check out my book. Crickets-----No People will meet me halfway. 
  Last but not least I am very proud to know and say that I am, was, and forever will be different in a world where others try there best to fit in the mold and follow the American Dream.
